FOX Fall Trailers

Today FOX went ahead and released trailers for their Fall lineup. Overall I think FOX has a more solid line up compared to NBC, by more solid I mean less chance of cancellation. Without further adieu lets break down these trailers and my thoughts on the shows. The only show which didn't receive a trailer at FOX's upfront was Red Band Society, but once that shows up online I will post it up.

Gracepoint
Gracepoint is the american remake of the British show Broadchurch (which also stars David Tennant). The show is a crime drama about a peaceful town where no murders occur until one day when an 11 year old boy goes missing and cause the citizens of the town become suspects in the murder of the boy. Broadchurch only has 1 season so if Gracepoint succeeds it will most likely break away from its British counterpart beyond season 1. To me this show reminds me of the Killing which is a good thing and lets hope that this doesn't leave us on the massive cliffhanger which the Killing did. Regardless I am looking forward to this show, not only cause it reminds me of the Killing but cause the star studded cast of the show which will make sure the acting in the show is top notch.

Wayward Pines
Before I start just keep in mind this show starts in 2015 and is a miniseries. Despite M. Night Shyamalan being behind this show I'm still looking forward to this show and I really hope that Shyamalan doesn't stuff this up because after Avatar I lost all hope in him. Despite my lost hope I can't deny this trailer is a good one that would get most people pumped for this show. This show is a 10 episode mini series and it follows a special service agent who wanders into the town of Wayward Pines to look for two of his associates. The town itself is what intrigues me because of how mysterious and creepy the town feels. I can't quite put my finger on it  but this show does remind me of Silent Hill mashed up with Alan Wake. Here's hoping that this show isn't ruin by an unneccessary twist.

Backstrom
Backstrom doesn't really interest me at all cause it just looks like a generic cop procedural and I'm just not keen on watching a genre that has been done to death. The show starts Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute) as a self destructive cop, and that is all we know about the show at the moment which isn't very enticing. I think what FOX is trying here is to create characters that strongly mirror HOUSE which they also did last year with Rake however the whole time while I was watching this trailer I kept thinking haven;t we seen this before? What is this show going to different? And at the end of the trailer my questions still weren't answered which isn't a good sign. I'm guessing this show will probably be axed soon cause of its unoriginality unless it does something different during it's first few eps to set it apart from other cop procedurals (like how Person of Interest did)

Mulaney
The plot for this sitcom didn't sound too interesting and this trailer was ok at best. It's hard not to differentiate this show from Seinfeld as it starts with a stand up routine then cuts to the episode. Then cue the weird Kramer like character. I think what will make or break this show is the situations which the characters are put in. This show from the start has big shoes to fill as I know me and my friends will be comparing this show to Seinfeld because of the premise the show has set for itself. I'm hoping this show succeeds because with the absence of Community many people will be searching for a new comedy to fill their voids.

Hieroglyph
If FOX cancelled Almost Human for this show I will be very disappointed. This show is a new adventure, drama doesn't look too enticing at all. You would think that FOX would at least make sure the actors don't have a British accent when they are playing Egyptian characters which just makes this show seem ridiculous. Aside from the accent issue the show doesn't look interesting or original at all. I honestly don't think this show has a chance and will probably get axed after season 1 or even midway through. If Almost Human didn't survive it's first season then this show has absolutely no chance.

Empire
When I first read the plot synopsis for this show I wasn't too interested in the premise at all however this first trailer has got me slightly interested in the show. The show stars Terrance Howard (Rhodes from Iron Man 1) and Taraji P. Henson (Carter from Person of Interest). The show is basically about a dying head of a music empire who is tasked with choosing an heir so that his legacy lives on. His choices on his heir are between his two sons who both have their strengths and weaknesses in regards to running a multi million dollar music empire. If you think that was enough for a story you were wrong, cause then we add Taraji Henson to the mix who plays Terrance Howard's ex wife and mother to the heirs. After watching the trailer I might just give this show a shot since I loved Taraji in Person of Interest and it will be good to see what she can do as an antagonist in the show.

The Last Man on Earth
FOX also released a trailer/clip from their upcoming sitcom The Last Man on Earth (which doesn't have a release date as of yet). As you may have guessed the show is literally about the Last Man on Earth who wanders around doing whatever he pleases because he can. The premise of this show is definitely interesting and comes from Phil Lord and Chris Miller who have had great success in the past with their previous projects (21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie). Because of the writers behind the show I will probably be checking this one out. The show stars Will Forte who many will recognise from SNL. The main problem I see at the moment with this show is if the writers will introduce any other characters to the show because without funny situations (which usually involve other people) the show might fail unless it does something along the lines of I Am Legend (with the dog and talking to objects) or Castaway (WILSON!).
