Seeing as how most people in Australia have some public holidays coming up and I have a nice one week break from the hectic university environment I thought I would share my thoughts on the top 10 shows that people should binge watch over the break. These shows are not only good for people that haven't seen them but are also good for a re-watch.
#10 - Lost
Lost may be long and a touch confusing but I cant deny that this show kept me on the edge of my seat week after week and now the journey can be relived again without waiting a whole week (or months at a time between seasons). Once you get attached (or re attached) to the characters it will be hard to stop watching the story of Flight 815.
#9 - Orange is the New Black
Fans of House of Cards (which is further down this list) may have heard or even watching this show. Orange is the new black tells the tale of a middle ages woman who has to serve time in prison for something she did years ago. The premise might sound boring or too serious for you but trust me when I say this show is one of the more enjoyable shows I've seen to date. And as for the serious part, don't worry cause I can garuntee you that there will be stories and jokes that will make you crack up. Season 1 was released last year but worry not as season 2 is slated to release next month in one go just like house of cards.
#8 - Vikings
I was put off this show at the start as I saw that it was on history channel but when one of my friends said it's not a documentary and started to explain the premise my eyes lit up. Currently I am halfway through season 1 and I can safely say this show is amazing, not only does it have intriguing characters and awesome action but the show (being on history channel) is also fairly accurate historically which means you get to learn as you watch. After watching episodes of this show and being thoroughly entertained I constantly find myself googling for more Viking history.
#7 - Orphan Black
I started and finished season 1 of this show earlier this year and beat myself up for ignoring it when it came out. Rarely have I seen a sci-fi show which has held my interest for more than a couple of episodes but this show keeps you hooked episode after episode as the main character unravels the conspiracy behind her clone. I am no eagerly awaiting what season 2 brings especially after the massive cliffhanger that is thrown at us in the finale of season 1.
#6 - Parks and Recreation
This show is probably one of the most underwatched comedies and that is a shame since this show is a hidden gem. It started off as a show that only a few fans watched but now it has sky rocketed to be one of the more critically acclaimed shows on television. If that isn't reason enough to watch this show then Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson should be as he is easily one of more enjoyable characters on the show (and the most meme-able).
#5 - House of Cards
House of Cards was the show that put Netflix original programming on everyones map and for a good reason too. This dark political thriller helmed by the great Kevin Spacey is and extremely engaging show that has managed to captivate people who usually hate political shows (me included). Did I also mention that Kevin Spacey is in this?
#4 - Arrested Development
Arrested Development is a show that is garunteed to have you laughing. This show also recently god its long awaited 4th season which gave fans another reason to rejoin the Bluth family on their hilarious antics. Not only is this show both clever & funny, or extremely quotable but this show has one of the best and most flawless casts in a sitcom which really bring home some of the funniest scenes to grace television (Geroge Sr.'s funeral anyone?).
#3 - Freaks and Geeks
This show was cut off in it's prime and as a result only has one season but don't let that fool you as this show is easily one of the better sitcoms of old. Whats better than watching the perils of school kids back in the day? Watching your favorite stars in what for most of them was their first role which spring boarded them to the fandom they hold now.
#2 - Game of Thrones
This show needs no introduction, as it is one of the most watched shows . Similar to the #1 show on this list, Game of Thrones is equally as amazing on a second watch as you know the outcome of most of the characters but this time you are able to see clearly at all the pieces in play. Lets be honest who doesn't love dragons, zombies, sword fighting and random naked women
#1 - Breaking Bad
I would be a fool not to include this show on my list, and you would be a fool if you read the title and not recognise this show or havent seen it. Breaking Bad was one of the best series of all time and it's even better on a rewatch as you can see all the pieces fall in line. For me I really enjoyed this on my second watch as for the transformation of Walter White has to be hands down one of the most intriguing character developments in modern television.
