This is one show I was expecting to bomb but surprisingly I am really enjoying this half hour sitcom. Some of you may be asking yourselves "Didn't I watch this movie already?" or "Is this a show based on the movie?", the answer to both those questions is yes (kinda). This show is the second adaptation of the novel by Nick Hornby, the first being the movie staring Hugh Grant. For those of you that haven't watched the movie or read the book this story follows a successful songwriter and bachelor Will (David Walton) as he lives his life without a care in the world but his world starts to change when a single mom Fiona (Minnie Driver) and her 11 year old son Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) move in next door. The show and movie (being based on the same book) share many similarities but what I feel the show does differently is further look at the weird, kind of fatherly relationship Will and Marcus have.
I only just started watching this show yesterday after a friend badgered me to watch it week after week and I finally gave in. As you may have guessed I've enjoyed the journey thus far and have binged the first 7 episodes in one sitting and I now find myself anticipating the next episode because I actually really enjoy this show. Another thing enjoyable about this show are the characters who are played well by their respective actors. I strongly believe that Benjamin Stockham (Marcus) is the glue that holds the show together and does it well. One of the things that could have been the downfall of this show is the lack of a good child actor but alas we have a good one so we don't have to worry.
Not only is this a sitcom but it has this feel good nature about the show (especially the pilot), which makes me smile when I see the plots play out on the screen. If you haven't watched this show or are looking for something interesting and fairly funny to watch I would highly recommend this show. The icing on the cake here is that this show also has a catchy opening song which I have kindly linked blow.
